Switzerland vs. the U.S. – why only the U.S. has a gun violence epidemic

THis was a good article, pointing out many differences in Swiss vs US society that are factors explaining why both countries have similar gun ownership rates yet the US has more gun violence.

In the conclusion, it states that "reducing gun violence in the U.S. will require addressing not only the availability of firearms but also the cultural and societal factors that contribute to the high rates of gun-related deaths."

The article spends a lot of time explaining the factors contributing to gun violence that have nothing to do with the rate of gun ownership, then advocates to reduce gun availability. If the gun control folks spent more time pointing out and trying to fix those other factors, gun availability wouldn't be so much of a problem. But as usual, fixing those other factors is hard, whereas outlawing gun ownership is easy (but won't work), so they go for the easier route rather than the better route.
