Note that he's not exactly saying these things are bad per se -- his point being that they are not _necessary_ for most of us, and he subtly drops some criticism against the developer community for adopting them as as de facto standard. His logic is powerful: all that complexity is not necessary because Basecamp and Hey are the "monuments" that attest to that affirmation.
DHH positions RoR as "the one man web framework" by trying to sublimate all these points of view in a cohesive framework, throwing some jokes in between and with a great on stage presence that sometimes reminds of Steve Jobs (his tone of voice is strikingly similar)
I think it is slightly too long, but it's a great presentation although I'm not sure I agree with everything he says.
