So I got into a random Youtube binge-watch a while back, and a lot of this rings true.

Yes, there's a lot of neat animation stuff, some quirkiness, some awkward "omg lulz I'm so random" excess, but ultimately the series does not communicate well with the audience. At first I wondered if the liminal state of confusion was intended in viewers, but it just kept going.

It isn't a side-effect of "Rule of Cool"--as author notes, even some characters' own motivations are contradictory or at least frustratingly opaque.
