Because they were invented at some point in the previous 100 years.
“The last century” can mean both the previous century and (1900-1999) and the preceding hundred years.
“The previous century” or “the prior century” are more common ways to refer to the calendar century (19th, 20th, etc.)
Yeah, it’s ambiguous. They mean ‘of the last 100 years’, ie 1925-2025, not the 20th century.
(I can see an argument for the iPhone, but the iPad, really? I have an iPad, I like the iPad, but world-changing it is not.)
