Can someone please explain the panic with Intel going bankrupt?
AMD seemed to barely make it for decades and it worked out just fine -- some years the existence of AMD baffled me, others I was happy the was a second player delivering decent x86(_AMD64).
What's the difference here? (Psychological) Outlook? More alternatives (Apple silicon, ARM64)?
The market is just plain cruel to Intel, and has been for years. It's essentially saying "There's no room for more than one company". Until this sudden increase in Intel's share price, Intel was valued at less than the value of the equipment alone (forget the value of the IP).
All this while Intel is still profitable, and although their margins suck compared to some other semiconductor companies, Intel's margin is way better than most traditional companies.
Compare AMD's market cap with Intel's. And then compare the actual revenues. Stark contrast.
