This is what's really scary, deregulating crypto, maybe other financial deregulation, high tariffs, and maybe an inability to see what's happening in the economy could really lead to a nasty depression.
My fear is: in the absence of verifiable economic data, it’s human to see relationships between two flappy variables as their closer, more rationally-related indicators rot away. Is IBM behaving like they have full access to the good numbers? How can you tell? Like politics, will a large minority simply rely heaviest on faith and other emotions while a small majority ask for proof?
I think your hypothesis is correct about what will happen, but... Megacorps like Amazon or Google or ADP or JPMorgan have access to lots of data already due to the nature of their businesses. This really gives an advantage to large companies, and a disadvantage to individuals and small companies. Megacorps fact based, everyone else goes on vibes. Just like in elections.
