Part of being a 3rd world country is having the cool stuff you want to buy cost a lot more than "on the right places"
Well, it's part of being a high tariff country. Not all developing countries are high tariff, though until yesterday all high tariff countries were developing world (defined broadly; Brazil's a notable example of an upper-end developing country with high tariffs, say).
