Meanwhile, Wolfspeed in North Carolina has their building nearly done (last time I drove past a few months ago) and is already growing silicon carbide crystals. They will be making 200mm wafers.

aren't those guys there ones selling LEDs manufactured in china until yesterday? i expect their wafers to be off the lowest quality given they were always planning to pump huge LEDs.

They used to be Cree about 4 years ago. Cree was supposedly fab-less. But looks like that part of the business was sold in 2021 and is part of a joint-venture in China now. It's confusing.
Now watch as all these promised investments are gradually and silently scaled down during the next 3 years. These companies have really understood that the current administration is all talk no substance.
