wow the fact that he did the sim-swap in store is wild to me. I could understand pulling it off over the phone but doing it in person is ballsy to say the least. All just to get access to an X account. I guess unlinking your X from your cell phone would be the only way to mitigate this.

Anyways. 2FA were never about security but ads (even if you could do 2FA in some sane way technically).
Wdym "could"? SMS 2FA has been on the down turn for a decade with technically sane and better alternatives such as TOTP and hardware tokens replacing it.
Just because some greedy and incompetent companies still use SMS for 2FA does not mean the concept of "what you know + what you have" as authentication is inherently bad or about ads. It's still about improving security.
