Why French - isn't this more a reaction to directors like Godard that can come off edgy and pretentious?

I mostly just don’t like arthouse cinema in general and was using the previous commenter’s example.
Ah I see, I don't love all arthouse but the ones that resonate impart a sense of wonder, empathy, travel (time and space) so was surprised to see it here.
