"US" or Trump?
Pre-2025, the DoJ was quite independent. Since Trump assumed office again, it's been servile to Trump himself. Headlines should inform us of that.
If it's Trump directing this, that's a total conflict of interest for him.
There aren't any laws against conflict of interest by the President.
It wouldn't stop him if there were, of course. But he doesn't even have to worry about some future independent counsel looking into it.
The only brake on it would be the voters. They were told that this is what they'd get, and they voted for it anyway.
Because prediction markets are vital to our national interests
How so?
Because the president's son is on the board of the best-known of the prediction markets. Since it's in the national interest to help enrich the president and his family, regulating prediction markets is contrary to said national interest.
So by “vital to our national interactions,” OP meant not vital to our national interests?
Yes. It was sarcasm.
(Sarcasm is always much clearer in your own head than to other people reading it on the Internet. But I'm quite certain that this was what was intended.)
