I think he's also a good example of what Taleb is pointing out - the problems with taking a snapshot of the present and projecting. 2001 was published in 1968, with a moon landing imminent. Projecting ahead, it seemed reasonable that by 2001 we would have had moon bases, commercial flights to large space stations, and ships ready to explore Jupiter and Saturn. I wish he had been right!
