For anyone that wants to try Yliluoma's dithers for themselves, I have created the only interactive version that I am aware of, as well as the only GPU accelerated version at https://app.dithermark.com
Ooh, I'd read this article before, but didn't realize Joel Yliluoma is Bisqwit. He has a YouTube channel on technical topics including: making your own terminal emulator, NES emulator, 3D engine, Tetris, programming in raw assembly. https://www.youtube.com/c/Bisqwit
How well does it behave in animations?
I just tried Yliluoma 1&2 on video it right now, and it does about as well as Bayer ordered dithering, since it is a variation on ordered dithering. You can try it yourself, since I built an app[1] that includes the Yliluoma 1&2 dithering algorithms, and supports video.

Where Floyd–Steinberg?
Old hat.
No Atkinson?
Floyd-Steinberg and Atkinson are the "play Freebird!" of dithering algorithms.
Give me a ring when they stop playing Free Bird
Just can't seem to please those hipsters with refined taste for microbrewed quantized noise. It's not real dithering unless it comes from the Dideren region of northern Germany. Oh won't you fly, free bird, yeah..
