This why I oppose national healthcare. I don’t want to pay for other people to get healthcare. I don’t want people to get higher wages for jobs in retail or restaurants because I don’t want to pay more. I’m a greedy bastard.

But narrowly targeting a specific economic activity, seemingly arbitrarily, when that same econsonomic acitivity also provides employment to the poorer segment of the population makes no sense!
Exactly. It’s why minimum wages are stupid. If a person is in dire straights let them be able to take a job for $1 an hour. Employment is the end that justifies the means. Notions like dignity, fairness, exploitation don’t belong in a capitalist society that is doing its best to become Ferenginar.

The spectrum of potential economic contribution by the population is too wide to give a humane life to everyone. So it is moral to provide a baseline because the unborn do not get to decide what body or family or life they get born into.

I think you misunderstand capitalism. One of the main moral premises that capitalism is built on is self-ownership and voluntary exchange. You are not the property of others. You can own things. Others can’t coerce you and vice versa.
