Is the dataset open source?

It would be cool to feed the card to MiniMax H3 (https://www.minimax.io/blog/minimax-h3) to get an Harry Potter style moving picture for each card.

a fun idea! and yep, most data is available via scryfall’s api. with nearly 100k prints, that would be quite a task!
Fun, though a bit much for eye candy that doesn't really serve any purpose. https://gatherer.wizards.com/ has all the same info in a much snappier package.

offhand 2 complaints. that particle logo eats 5% of my CPU while it's visible. clicking a card is full screen like I left the page, but didn't so I can't use the back on my browser to go back to the grid.

thanks for looking! i know gatherer and scryfall well - great tools! i wanted something that felt a bit more cinematic and photorealistic.

on the cpu, mind sharing what you're running? i'm on an m1 mba and i'm far from that number.

cards open in lightbox, so esc gets you back to grid. common pattern, but appreciate your feedback and will consider adding it as a route.

I was also getting confused. No obvious marker to close card so I instinctively pressed back twice and got back to HN. Would try to keep exploring but I'll definitely forget and do it again.

out-of-the-box, unfortunately not! it could technically be built though :)

Looks really polished, nice. I just wish the cards loaded a bit faster.
the 3d renderer is a bit greedy, but i’ve got a few ideas here. thanks for giving it a spin and for the input!
tl;dr - first card now loads and renders ~45–60% faster. next/prev now 9x faster.

balancing a photorealistic renderer with performance is a dance. i'll keep tweaking, but thanks for the input and the fun challenge. was a bit of a doozy tbh, but feels much faster now.
