Ask HN: Why does Google Chrome's TAB SEARCH not work for their own Google Maps?

Google Chrome enables you to search a specific site from the address bar by typing the site name followed by the tab key.

This functionality works on many sites (eg HN, linkedin, vimeo etc) but doesn't seems to work on Google's own property Google Maps.

Why have they not enabled this?
