A variety of complex programs are being built and deployed in plain C without generics, which makes it an open question as to whether they're required at all.

I thought Youtube was built in Python, is that not true anymore?

I do hope they don't forget DirectBuffer, bug #4724038. This incantation is required to unmap a memory-mapped FileChannel, which you need to do so that you can delete it, because the OS of course…

No.
But then I don't like taking pictures of myself and friends holding alcoholic beverages while grinning stupidly into the camera either, which I noticed is somehow popular.

Related: python -m smtpd -n -c DebuggingServer localhost:25
A makeshift SMTP server that logs all messages to the console.

I agree with hUMA, but don't forget that the game is now mostly about power efficiency. Also, GPUs.

I felt that if the science hipster existed, thats what she would write. Disclaimer: I'm in no position to judge any of this.

Oh Sweden, is there anything you can't do? I'm impressed by this country, especially considering what they manage to pull off with such a small population.

Yeah, all the time I had a little devil on my shoulder shouting "my jvm laughs at your mri". Thats said, I like the approach to use what the OS offers - essentially atomic file system constr…

That was a fascinating read, thanks! Tl;dr: 100$ bills produced in all likelihood by a foreign government (suspects are North Korea, Syria, Iran) or maybe criminal gangs are so well done that they are…

Not sure I got that - why is cable different in this regard from DSL? I'm pretty sure there is such thing built into adsl/vdsl routers or modems, at least not in Germany.

That was interesting - not so much the trick itself, but the number of times I had to watch it before I finally got it. In the end, it seems so obvious - but human perception can be fooled easily it s…

Ha, Bob doing another DI framework? Is it any good?

But won't Google Drive have the same issue then?

Also, it was pretty funny. GitHub taking this down is... concerning. This will do nothing for the cause of women, en contraire.

Its not just that, the conditions are described as being "brutal". If you are interested: http://www.businessinsider.com/brutal-conditions-in-amazons-... Better yet, if you …

This. I'm working as a consultant, and I see the same thing over and over again. There aren't many "IT Managers" that are competent at what they're doing. If you are good at w…

Looks pretty good, the messaging is very much like Everlane.

Well it looks ok, but lots of detail is lost, especially if the source is grainy. I usually don't bother and go for 720p, but when you need great quality, you need 8-12GB for 1080p.

I admire the audacity to build something like this on your own, my perfectionism (and laziness) would probably get in my way.

That would be useful - sometimes you have to change the system time to debug some code, and if that trips up all the other containers, its a deal breaker for us.

I think we've used something similar some time ago (maybe XEN?) and had the following issues, how does Docker compare:
- what happens when one container changes the system clock?
- are iptables r…

Not sure I got that - that sounds an awful lot like JSF, which should never have been invented.

I wished more people would understand this. A good example is Pixar, before everything else they concentrate on building teams that can execute.

This post is a little light on details. They mention they're not using DNS to distribute the requests, but use a single IP instead - how is that possible? Also, they boast that it cost only 10$ -…

Ok, I get what you mean, but it certainly isn't jaggy. I'm running Chrome 31 on a MBP Maverick.

Confirmed. Smooth & nice in Chrome, but not in FF.
