Why do they not open source the entire package? I have to think that AOL has clean intellectual property ownership on the code base. It would be better than letting this important historical codebase …

I never saw this before. I used to like walking past the old data center in the Rich Building at Georgia Tech. It was hard to imagine what it was like in its hay day with punch cards and all.

I have not measured it in a long time, but the effect of blocking port 22 and leaving open a non-standard SSH port is dramatic ! As in noticeable decrease in load average on the server.

I actually researched this long ago - 2004 - when I was a student at Tech and gave a presentation to the Atlanta Radio Club about cryptographically secure authentication that would be Part 97 friendly…

I saw that on QRZ. The radio spectrum still works fine while the FCC is on break though. I am not too worried about it.

That is an idea! It would be fun to run SSH over packet radio while no one is around to enforce Part 97!

It sometimes feels a bit like a exploring a cave with a small flashlight. It's also fun when you start referring to the codebase as a patient. "Well, we can try this approach and see how sh…

Interesting statistics! I was homeschooled by my mother and feel that it was instrumental in shaping my path into both computing and entrepreneurship.

I had read that Tim Cook is an early riser, but didn't know about being up that late regularly. I think the super early riser is a cultural in south Alabama. My mother's parents grew up wi…

I like CoffeeScript a lot actually. It seems to me that in some circumstances JavaScript is a new assembly language. Just because it is the native language of the runtime environment doesn't me…

Georgia Tech was a mixed bag during that period if I remember correctly. I fought to keep the ACM chapter relevant to encourage entrepreneurship from 2002 to 2004, but it didn't quite stick way …
